A tall, humid, planted setup with a big water feature. Their classic problem is snout rubbing on glass — height, cover and visual barriers prevent it.

Arboreal — vertical height first. An adult chinese water dragon should live in at least 48" L × 24" W × 48" H; we build toward 72" L × 36" W × 72" H (6 × 3 × 6 ft, roughly 18 sq ft of floor and about a 808-gallon glass equivalent).
Height is the priority; a 6 ft tall planted cage is the gold standard.

Lighting and UVB
UVB: T5 UVB 10–12% at basking distance (UVI 3–5). Run lights on a 12–14 hours photoperiod, on a timer, and replace UVB bulbs on the manufacturer's schedule even while they still emit visible light.
Humidity
Target 70–80%. Large water body, automatic misting or fogging, plus live planting.
Substrate and depth
Bioactive soil / coco fibre with leaf litter. Depth: 4–6 in.

Build list
- 4x2x4 ft (or taller) planted cage — Vertical space plus water is the whole design.
- Halogen flood + T5 UVB 12% — Strong basking and UVB for a diurnal, fast-growing lizard.
- Digital thermostat — Every heat source must run through a thermostat — unregulated heat burns animals.
- Two digital probe thermometers + hygrometer — Read the warm side, cool side and humidity directly — stick-on dials are inaccurate.
- Bioactive soil and drainage layer — Handles a big water feature without souring.
