Pick your species and its life stage to get the size, temperature gradient, lighting, humidity, substrate depth and furnishings it actually needs. These figures follow the modern ethological standard — enough space for roaming, climbing, burrowing and proper thermoregulation — not the outdated bare-minimum tank formulas.
Ball python
Python regius
A heavy-bodied ambush snake that needs floor space and heavy cover. Ball pythons will use every inch given, and cluttered large enclosures reduce stress rather than cause it.

Large females do best at 6ft x 2ft of floor space.
Temperature gradient
Overhead radiant heat panel or deep heat projector on a thermostat; belly heat alone is not enough for a large enclosure.

3–4 inches across the whole floor holds 60–75% humidity.
