Morph calculator questions
- How does a morph calculator work?
- Each single-gene trait is crossed on its own using a Punnett square, then every trait is combined to give the odds for a whole hatchling. A recessive trait needs two copies to show, an incomplete dominant trait shows with one copy and gets a distinct super form with two, and a dominant trait looks the same with one or two copies.
- What does het mean in a clutch result?
- Het (heterozygous) means the hatchling carries one hidden copy of a recessive gene without showing it. Pairing two hets gives roughly 25% visual, 50% het and 25% normal — so half the normal-looking babies are 66% possible het.
- Why are traits like tangerine or extreme harlequin missing?
- Those are polygenic or line-bred: several genes plus selective breeding decide how strongly they show, so no Punnett ratio predicts them. They are listed per species on this page but left out of the odds on purpose.
- Are the odds guaranteed?
- No. The percentages are per egg, not per clutch, and small clutches often miss the average badly. Real results also depend on correct het status, so unproven hets are odds on top of odds.
