A large, powerful boa. Young animals are strongly arboreal; adults need serious floor space and structural climbing.

Boa imperator enclosure size
Semi-arboreal — floor space plus climbing. An adult boa imperator should live in at least 72" L × 30" W × 30" H; we build toward 96" L × 36" W × 36" H (8 × 3 × 3 ft, roughly 24 sq ft of floor and about a 539-gallon glass equivalent).
An adult female boa is an 8ft-enclosure animal, not a 4ft one.

Temperature and heating
Radiant heat panel plus ambient room heating for large enclosures.

Lighting and UVB
UVB: T5 UVB 6% recommended (UVI 2–3 at basking). Run lights on a 12 hours photoperiod, on a timer, and replace UVB bulbs on the manufacturer's schedule even while they still emit visible light.
Humidity
Target 60–75%. Deep substrate, large water tub, and partially covered ventilation.
Substrate and depth
Cypress mulch or bioactive soil. Depth: 4 in.

- Radiant heat panel (large) — Heats a big volume evenly without drying it out.
- Digital thermostat — Every heat source must run through a thermostat — unregulated heat burns animals.
- Two digital probe thermometers + hygrometer — Read the warm side, cool side and humidity directly — stick-on dials are inaccurate.
- Bulk cypress mulch — Cheapest way to hold humidity across a big footprint.
