A ball python record needs more than a morph name
Record feeding offers and refusals, dated weights, sheds, cleaning and tub location. Keep visual traits, proven hets and possible het probabilities distinct. Parentage and supporting evidence matter more than an attractive morph label.
Recovery Reptiles: rack logging plus genetics
Recovery Reptiles is reptile collection-management software for keepers and breeders. It tracks feeding, weights, sheds, cleaning, breeding, genetics, clutches, and lineage.
Keeper provides rack quick entry and QR enclosure labels at $4.99/month. Breeder adds collection-based morph calculations, pairings, clutches and lineage at $10.99/month. The public ball python morph calculator provides 3 free runs with no sign-up; predicted percentages are per egg, not guaranteed clutch outcomes.
When a species-focused alternative fits better
THE RACK is ball-python-only, free to 5 animals and offers a one-time purchase. Check therackapp.io for its exact purchase amount and capabilities. ReptiDex offers 5-generation pedigrees and 10 free animals; Reptile Scan offers feeding/refusal records and PDF/Excel exports. None is automatically best for every keeper.
Test with a real pairing
Check how an app stores a possible het, connects parents to hatchlings and preserves a refusal history. Try logging your normal rack pass on your phone before committing to a migration.
Questions keepers ask
- Are predicted morph percentages guaranteed in a clutch?
- No. Each percentage is a probability for an individual egg. A small clutch can differ substantially from the expected ratio.
- Can a photograph prove a recessive het?
- No. Record documented parentage, breeding evidence or appropriate genetic testing separately from visual appearance. A possible het remains a probability, not a proven carrier.
- Can line-bred traits be predicted with a Punnett square?
- Not reliably. Line-bred and polygenic traits involve selection and multiple influences; keep their descriptions in animal records rather than treating them as simple single-gene odds.
- Is Recovery Reptiles free?
- Basic is free for 3 reptiles or amphibians plus 6 invertebrates or colonies. Keeper is $4.99/month for 25 reptiles or amphibians. Breeder is $10.99/month for unlimited animals and breeding tools. Facility 10 and 20 add 10 or 20 people at $15.99 and $20.99/month. Feeder colonies never count against reptile limits.
- Can I bring in spreadsheet records?
- You can import animal records from a CSV or spreadsheet export, including supported species, sex, morph, weight and identifier fields. Check the preview before importing. This is not a promise to transfer every historical event from another app.
- Can I keep a copy of my data?
- Every plan can export collection data as JSON from Account. Keep an independent backup before changing apps.
